Launching the Darogan Welsh Society Support Fund

23 February 2025

Owain James

We know how hard it is to run a Welsh society. It’s a lot of work to organise events and activities, especially when you have a shoestring budget.

This is why we are pleased to launch the
Darogan Welsh Society Support Fund! Through this fund, Welsh societies can apply for up to £300 to help their society to grow and develop.

Over the last year, we have been setting aside some of our profit to create this fund to ensure that Welsh societies across the UK are active and flourishing. We have created this fund because we believe that these societies are important centres of community that represent the best of Wales. It also shows our commitment to continue working closely with these societies and their members to keep them informed about career opportunities in Wales.

It doesn’t matter if you are a new Welsh society, or a society has existed for decades: applications are open to Welsh university societies of all types.

You can apply to fund the purchase of assets and equipment, to fund activities and social events, and anything else you can think of that will help the Welsh society to flourish.

The process is really simple. Just complete the form and attach no more than 500 words explaining why you believe that your Welsh society should be the recipient of the fund (we suggest preparing the 500 word attachment before starting the application). You should explain how much of the fund you applying for (no more than £300), how you would spend this money, and what you think the impact will be for your society. You can upload your answer in any format you want (Word Document / PDF / PowerPoint), and feel free to add anything else if you’d like (e.g. a short video).

Some suggestions when applying:

  • We are looking for applications that will help build your community and that promotes Wales positively. We’re always interested in creative ideas
  • Please be as specific as possible – include a quote or a bill if you can!
  • Feel free to apply for funding for multiple purchases (include the cost for each purchase), but do not feel like you have to apply for the full £300.

Here is the link to apply. Deadline: 30th of September 2024.

Please note: The fund is expected to grow from year to year. This means that, even if you are not successful this year, there will be another opportunity next year.
