Purpose of the Job
This internship offers an opportunity to gain valuable firsthand experience within a dynamic and innovative environment focused on developing experience in business support. You will develop knowledge on the challenges and opportunities facing businesses in the region, as well as key skills such as organisation, communication, and problem-solving. Working closely with a supportive team, you will contribute to real projects, build confidence in the workplace, and deepen your understanding of the range of support available for businesses locally and across Wales, and how this underpins the success of companies within the M-SParc ecosystem.
To support M-SParc to develop and flourish as Wales’s leading Science Park and business support organisation, to encourage an entrepreneurial culture within the local business community. The role will help maintain and develop a relationship with both tenant companies and the wider business community, working with external stakeholders, developing and supporting projects for Menai Science Park.

Responsible To Gwynedd Business Support Co-ordinator
Location Menai Science Park; Anglesey.
Hours of Work Monday to Friday 37.5 hours a week. the flexibility to work very occasional antisocial hours for events is essential.
Salary Real Living Wage £12.60
Term 8 weeks June – September – exact date tbc with intern

Key Stakeholders
M-SParc relies on a strong and active relationship with a range of key organisations. These include and not limited to – Local, Welsh and UK Governments, Business Wales, Bangor University and other education organisations, Development Bank of Wales, British Business Bank, and Menter Môn. This role will allow you to build your network with these organisations.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As our summer intern, you’ll receive an opportunity to work across M-SParc, focusing on business support and business, but learning elements of business support, innovation, research, marketing and more. The below are activities you’ll be offered to undertake, but this will be under guidance and with support to upskill and gain experience.
1. Business Support and Admin
- Meet with businesses, alongside the M-SParc Business Support Team, to understand requirements and learn what support is available in the region and offered to innovative companies
- Shadow the Business Support Team, and members of the Business Wales team, to learn more about the opportunities offered in the region, from specialist digital and low carbon support to skills and finance.
- Support development of business plans, using your existing skills and learning what makes a good business plan
- Work with the team to test and feedback on the MySparc project; a newly developed system to support businesses, individuals, and business support organisations to link up and streamline the Business Support offer.
- Research industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscapes, feeding back findings to the M-SParc team and supporting them in their goal to stay innovative
- Introduction to different types of financial support for business, barriers to finance and identifying opportunities to support business with regards to accessing finance.
2. Innovation and Research
- Work with the operational team to learn how a large organisation like M-SParc runs.
- Conduct research on trends such as meeting room bookings, to identify popular times, and under-utilised areas, or car parking to identify any improvements to user behaviour, for example.
- Learn exceptional business support skills, gaining awareness of all the human elements required to make a large multi-tenanted building a success.
3. Events and Marketing
- Help organise workshops and networking events across the M-SParc locations, looking at existing events by both M-SParc and other organisations and suggesting topics.
- Taking an interest in marketing, shadowing the marketing team and learning or offering advice on trends, effective marketing, and comms.
- Gather feedback and assist in post-event analysis or analysing engagement and interaction on specific social media for specific posts.
4. Internship Feedback
- Reflect on and report progress and learning outcomes during and after the internship.
5. General Duties
- Taking independent decisions, within the agreed framework agreed by the Company Director, and managing their work when they are absent.
- Planning, prioritise and organise own work to achieve agreed objectives.
- Solving day to day problems as they arise, while recognising when a problem should be referred to others.
- Adopting a positive approach to teamwork, always looking for opportunities to act as an Ambassador for M-SParc;
- Ensure exceptional level of Customer Service
- Any other duties as requested by the Executive Director to reflect the changing needs and demands of M-SParc as a business
- General and shared duties as and when required that may include
- Opening and closing the building as required on a rota basis.
- Reception duties
- Reacting to incidents and scenarios to ensure the health and wellbeing of staff and tenants alike.
