About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join a team that undertake Financial Assessments and Reassessments for Social Care clients receiving a chargeable service for residential and non-residential care. The role is based at Coed Pella, Colwyn Bay, 37 hours per week, permanent (Grade GO5). In addition to completing financial assessments, the role includes identifying possible welfare benefits and referring to the Welfare Rights Unit to maximise income for the individual and potential income for the Authority.
Main Duties
- Verify all income and capital in relation to service users with internal/external agencies
- Undertake provisional, final and annual re-assessments
- Undertake visits to individuals in their own homes to complete financial assistance forms as and when required
- Monitor service users’ contributions and payments to providers where required
- Raise accounts as and when required to service users or their representatives
- Investigate the reason for non-settlement of accounts and liaise with the Incomes Section in relation to the recovery of these accounts
- Produce final accounts upon the death of a service user for submission to the Executor of the estate as and when required
- Provide advice and a point of contact to service users, providers and internal/external agencies
- Register the Council’s interest in service users’ property where necessary in order to protect any departmental debt
- Deliver on-demand financial assessment where practical
- Maintain and contribute towards the provision of statistical information as required
- Maintain and update as necessary records of private providers
- Represent the team at internal and external meetings as and when required
- Accept payment via the Civica Payment System
What we’re looking for
You will ideally have experience of working in a financial role, although this is not essential as full training will be provided. We are looking for applicants with excellent numeracy and literacy skills who can work with a high level of accuracy and can collate and analyse information from different sources. Experience of delivering a customer focused service, the ability to communicate with vulnerable adults and to build partnerships with internal and external agencies are important, as is the ability to manage and prioritise your own workload and experience of using computer technology.
Due to the nature of the work, it will be necessary to obtain a satisfactory disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Essential
- A good standard of education, preferably 6 GCSEs including Mathematics and English and/or Welsh Language
- Experience of dealing with the public
- Experience of the use of computer technology
- Ability to communicate effectively to people on all levels
