GradCon Cymru 2025: Reflections
24 September 2025
Mared Jones
Earlier this year, we began exploring the idea of hosting a large-scale graduate careers event in Cardiff – one that would showcase the fantastic opportunities available in Wales and directly connect employers with university talent.
Darogan’s mission has always been clear: to connect Welsh employers with the 37% of Welsh students who leave Wales for university. Despite our thriving industries and the wealth of young talent eager to work here, many employers in Wales struggled to reach graduates outside the country. Big-city recruiters from London and beyond often dominated the scene, and too often, homegrown talent slipped away.
We knew there was a gap to fill – and what better way to bridge it than by bringing together students, graduates, and employers at one big event to celebrate the very best Wales has to offer? That’s how GradCon Cymru was born.
The Stats
On the 9th of September 2025, Darogan partnered with 50 of Wales’ leading employers to bring its vision to life at DEPOT, Cardiff. For a first-time event, the results spoke volumes:
500 students & graduates, representing:
- 43 UK universities
- 18 Welsh local authorities, plus candidates from beyond Wales and overseas
- 200+ degree disciplines
50 employers represented by:
- 100+ colleagues
- Spanning 15+ sectors
Plus, we delivered 7 inspiring talks and workshops designed to support candidates at the very start of their careers and develop their employability skills.
What Employers Said

Final Thoughts & Looking Ahead
A few weeks on, it’s clear from both employers and candidates that GradCon Cymru 2025 was a real success.
What’s struck us most is this: even in an age of digital platforms and online job hunting, the appetite for in-person connection remains strong. Online job boards – including our own at Darogan – make finding opportunities simple. But nothing can replace the confidence, conversations, and career sparks that come from face-to-face interaction.
Looking ahead, we’re already planning ways to make GradCon Cymru even bigger and better next year.
Employers – if you’re passionate about inspiring Wales’ next generation of talent, we’d love to hear from you and get you involved with next year’s event(s).
